Ready Steady Roll was started in 2015 by original owner Darrell as a pop-up in Bedford's libraries, museums and the Pavillion in the park, but moved into its own premises at Ivy Lodge in 2017.

Simon and Chas took over the business in January 2023. They've been friends since the mid 80s and had been regulars at the café over the last few years.

I'm London born and moved to Bedford, via the south west, as a teenager.

I've played games pretty much all my life, starting with card games with my grandparents and the mass market games everyone knows, then branched into Roleplaying Games for many years - I still love them but never really have the time!

In the early 2000’s board and card games started to have a bigger influence but it was when someone got me my first Ticket To Ride game that things really took off.

Apart from games I love movies, live theatre and going to British wrestling shows.

I spent my childhood in Bedford from the age of 8 until I got married and moved out to Rushden in 1992, where I've lived ever since. I have 4 grown up kids and an ex-racing greyhound, who is just a complete nutcase.

My first introduction to boardgames was through the more traditional tabletop wargaming route from the age of about 11, then getting into AD&D and Warhammer 40K. Boardgames were also ever present growing up.

Outside of games, I love live music and can be seen selling merch for the rock band Vega at their gigs up and down the country and love going to 2000 Trees and ArcTanGent festivals.

My other passion is football, supporting my local side AFC Rushden & Diamonds and RDFC before that. I'm also a former director of the club and was heavily involved during its formation, after the demise of Rushden & Diamonds FC.
